Under Sustainable Development Goal 10, the Spanish Network Platform of the United Nations Global Compact, COMparte, has published the corporate volunteering programme that Isdefe has been promoting with the Masnatur Foundation for one decade.
This Project involves providing leisure activities to persons with disabilities, and in the years since its creation, has consisted of visits to the Getafe and Cuatro Vientos air bases and renting a space to hold its Christmas Day celebration.
During these days, kids and young adults in the foundation have had a chance to enjoy numerous entertainment activities, like touring the Air Museum, climbing into an aeroplane cockpit, attending exhibits by military dogs and seeing how firefighters in a military air base work.
Also, over the past five years, it has become a bit of a tradition for Isdefe to partner in organising the Foundation’s Christmas party, booking a room in a universally-accessible certified hotel, and having workshops, karaoke and a visit from Santa Claus, with each child receiving a gift purchased with donations made by Isdefe employees. It’s a very touching celebration where everyone benefits, from the kids to the Masnatur volunteers and, of course, our own Isdefe volunteers.
Over these many years, 427 kids and young adults have benefitted, 80% of whom have a physical disability and 20% an intellectual disability. These activities also provided 2,592 hours of relief for the families involved, since the lack of autonomy associated with disabilities entails a considerable amount of work for family members.
Through this Project, Isdefe is continuing in its commitment to helping achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, and specifically SDG10, Reduce inequality, by viewing disability as part of mankind’s diversity.
