On Friday, January 20, at the headquarters of Isdefe, a meeting took place involving several ministerial departments and representatives of Spanish companies in the sector, in order to present to the attendees the main points of the Industrial Defence Strategy.
The Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce, the Secretary General of the Department of Economic Affairs and G20 of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Government, Manuel de la Rocha, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Ángeles Moreno, the Secretary of State for Digitisation and Artificial Intelligence, Carmen Artigas, the Secretary General for Industry and SMEs, Francisco A. Blanco, and the President of the Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales, María Belén Gualda, took part in this meeting where it was determined to, given the current scenario, increase defence spending gradually to reach 2% of GDP by 2029.
The Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce, said that another of goal of this meeting was to “enhance institutional dialogue with the defence industry in order to prioritise procurement alternatives based on national developments, and focused on values, such as sustainability, social commitment, transparency and collaborative culture”.
It is necessary to define strategic objectives that maximise the return on this investment and promote an industrial defence policy that creates jobs and territorial cohesion, develops dual technological capabilities and enhances investment in R&D while providing assurances and visibility to companies in the sector.
