Isdefe presents the ARES-UTM proyect results at the 14th annual Systems Engineering Conference in Anchorange, Alaska

The 14th annual Systems Engineering Conference, organised by the IEEE System, Man, Cybernetics Society and the IEEE Reliability Society, in concert with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), of whose Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) Isdefe has been a member since 2017, was held in Anchorage, Alaska from 19 to 22 May.

The theme for the conference was “Internet of Things as System of Systems”, and brought together experts from all over the world, who presented novel articles with theories, methodologies and applications of systems engineering to science, technology, industry and education.

Isdefe’s conference focused on the application of systems engineering to developing the U-Space concept for managing low-altitude drone flights, a paper for which was presented by Isdefe systems engineer Mr Jorge Bueno Gómez.

The conference relied on the results of the ARES (Spanish architecture for managing unmanned traffic) UTM project, which emerged from the 3rd annual Isdefe programme to gather and manage R&D ideas.

The work involved defining a functional architecture for the U-Space system in Spain, considering the needs and characteristics of drone users in Spain, as well as of Isdefe’s current authorities and clients, such as ENAIRE, AESA, the Civil Guard and others. It also took into account developments at the European level as part of the research conducted by the public-private SESAR Joint Undertaking group.

This presentation at the most prestigious international forum on systems engineering was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Isdefe’s Transport Interoperability, Testing and Operations Office, and the Systems Engineering Observatory of Isdefe’s Horizons Network, and its work with the University of South-Eastern Norway.
