As part of the COVID-19 contingency plans laid out by the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), Isdefe’s personnel is helping to, among other things, provide the ground segment services at the Canaries Space Centre (CEC) and INTA-Torrejón (CEIT) for the search and rescue (COSPAS-SARSAT) and PAZ missions, which are deemed essential in the framework of measures adopted by the Administration.

The PAZ mission covers security and defence needs, as well as certain civil needs. It is capable of taking over 100 images a day at a resolution of up to 100 cm, both during the day and night, regardless of weather conditions.

COSPAS-SARSAT is the international humanitarian programme that provides search and rescue services for individuals in dangerous situations anywhere in the world. It relies on a system of satellites to detect and locate the signals broadcast by emergency locator beacons installed on vessels and aircraft, or carried by people.
