The UPM and Isdefe renew the Chair for Defence and Security

This past Tuesday, 26 November, the Chancellor of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Mr Guillermo Cisneros Pérez, and Isdefe’s CEO, Mr Francisco Quereda Rubio, signed an agreement to renew the Isdefe-UPM Chair for Defence and Security at the School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSIT).

The Chair, part of Isdefe’s Horizons Network and first established in 2006, is intended to develop technology foresight and analysis activities, as well as to generate and disseminate knowledge in the areas of defence and security. The Chair also endows a scholarship programme for students at the school.

Both the chancellor and Isdefe’s CEO noted the long track record of collaboration between Isdefe and the UPM, more than 12 years, and the prestige and knowledge that this partnership brings to both organisations. The chancellor also underscored the nature of the Chair as providing a “window” that allows accessing the knowledge of the various disciplines taught at the university.

The Horizons Innovation Network is an Isdefe initiative, in concert with academia, to identify and analyse emerging or disruptive technologies and methodologies in defence, security and other areas that could pose challenges to the public administration in the future. The Chair is involved in RPAS detection and neutralisation, combat technologies, ICT in unmanned autonomous platforms and other areas.
