Isdefe is focusing on “The 21st century engineer” at the COIAE Workshop

Today, 14 November saw the start of the Spanish Association of Aeronautical Engineers’ workshop on “The development of the aeronautical engineer in the 21st century”, held at the Spanish Institute of Engineering.

Jesús Alonso, Director of Business Development at Isdefe, was tasked with opening this forum. In his remarks, he spoke about engineers as professionals undergoing constant training and whose ingenuity must serve society. Engineering is a privileged profession, one that persists and grows as technology advances, all the while retaining its essence. A good engineer must be capable of changing the world, of making history.

He also noted the need for innovation in their training, presenting an exposé of the real world facing the aeronautical engineer, backed by data from industry and from academia. Moreover, he recalled Isdefe’s efforts in educating systems engineers, and its scholarship programme to recruit talent and promote this discipline.

Angel Sanz, Director of Consulting and Strategic Management Processes at Isdefe, took part in a roundtable devoted to analysing how cross-disciplinary requirements and new technologies are affecting the teaching of aeronautics, and he underscored the importance of incorporating new and emerging technologies, like autonomous vehicles and big data, into academic study plans.
