The CESEDEN-UPM Chair Summer Course Addresses Technologies Related to Covid-19

The Engineer General Antonio Remón y Zarco del Valle Chair, of the Higher Centre for National Defence Studies (CESEDEN) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) held its annual summer course on July 6 and 7, 2020.

The event, in collaboration with Isdefe, analysed technologies related to COVID-19 and dependency and strategic capacities, paying special attention to R&D and innovation activities.

Due to the public health situation, the course was taught in virtual mode, and was very well received, with more than 150 online attendees.

Isdefe's Director of Business Development, Mr. Jesús Alonso Martín, participated in the round table on Spain's Strategic involvement in Covid-19, moderated by the UPM Rector's Representative for Innovation, Mr. Gonzalo León, together with the Head of the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command of the Spanish Army, Brigadier General Enrique Silvela; the president of the Forum of Innovative Companies, Luis Fernando Álvarez; and Team Leader for Strategy at DG Research & Innovation of the European Commission, Ms. Marta Truco.

The participants agreed on the importance of making a commitment to resilience to continue fighting the crisis, promoting innovative ecosystems to mitigate possible technological dependencies, and promoting a more digital and sustainable Europe.
