The Civil Guard in Preventing and Fighting Against New Forms of Crime Involving Covid-19: National and International Perspective.

This conference, organised by the Civil Guard in concert with Isdefe and held online on 25 November, was very well received in terms of participation.

The subjects covered focused on the role of the Civil Guard in the fight against organised crime, and revolved around the goal of understanding how COVID-19 has given rise to new criminal trends in Spain, the EU and around the world.

The conference addressed areas like the importance of international cooperation, the role played by Europol and Interpol, especially in crisis situations like the current one, and the importance of public and corporate awareness.

A total of 571 people signed up, and an average of 300 people, with peaks of as many as 500, followed the conference, which was opened by Isdefe’s Development Director, Mr Jesús Alonso, and featured the following experts from the Civil Guard: Lieutenant Colonel Vicente Corral Escariz, Head of the Judicial Police Technical Unit’s International Strategy Group, and Colonel Luis Peláez Piñeiro, Head of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Judicial Police Technical Unit. Representing international agencies were Mr José Antonio Alfaro Moreno, Team Leader at EUROPOL’s European Centre for Serious and Organised Crime, and Mr Matías Romero Ale, Head of the Coordination and Control Centre at INTERPOL’s Regional Office in Buenos Aires.
