Two of the greatest figures in space research will offer the details of two of the most important projects that are being carried out nowadays. Next September the 17th, due to their presence in our country, William H. Gerstenmaier, NASA’s Associate Administrator Human Exploration and Operations will deliver the paper “A Journey to Mars”.

William H. Gerstenmaier began his NASA career in 1977 performing aeronautical research. Manager of the Space Shuttle Program Integration in 1998, four years later, he was named manager of the International Space Station Program. Nowadays, Gerstenmaier is the associate administrator for the Human Exploration and Operations Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. Gerstenmaier’s main awards include three NASA Certificates of Commendation, two NASA Exceptional Service Medals and a Senior NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, among others.

Coming up next, Mr. Larry James, Deputy Director of JPL, will take part under the heading “Exploring our Solar System and Beyond”. 

Larry D. James was appointed Deputy Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in August 2013. At JPL he is the Laboratory’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to his retirement from the Air Force and his appointment as JPL Deputy Director, James was the Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance at the Pentagon. James’ major awards include Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal and Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
