European Defence Fund Conference: Priorities of the Ministry.

European Defence Fund Conference: Priorities of the Ministry.

On 26 March from 10 am to noon, a conference will be held, organised by the Defence Staff (EMACON) and the General Directorate of Armaments and Materiel (DGAM), in concert with ISDEFE, to discuss the national priorities in terms of the European Defence Fund (EDF).

This virtual conference is part of a series of initiatives launched by the Ministry of Defence to announce the first EDF call for 2021.

This conference will cover the following topics:

  • Priority military capacities in the medium term focused on the EDF.
  • National priorities for the EDF-SDG PLATIN working programme.
  • Technological priorities in defence and their relationship with the EDF.
  • Planned EDF timeline.

The speakers at the conference will be:

  • Artillery General Íñigo Pareja Rodríguez, Head of the Planning Division, EMACON
  • Col Enrique Montero Ruiz, Planning and Control Dept., Sub-Directorate General of Planning, Technology & Innovation, DGAM
  • Mr José Ramón Sala Trigueros, Head of R&D Planning Dept., Sub-Directorate General of Planning, Technology & Innovation, DGAM
  • Col Javier Boixareu Torres, Multilateral Relations Dept., Sub-Directorate General of International Relations, DGAM

The conference will be followed by a Q&A session.

The welcome address will be given by Mr Jesús Alonso Martín, Director of Business Development at Isdefe, and the conference will be opened by MGEN José Luis Murga Martínez, Deputy General Director of Planning, Technology & Innovation at the DGAM. Closing the conference will be BGEN Pedro Méndez de Vigo y Montojo, Deputy General Director of International Relations at the DGAM.

Given the importance of the European Defence Fund, and how well received this initiative has been at the national level in its preliminary iterations, the Preparatory Action on Defence Research (PADR) and the European Defence Industrial Development Programme (EDIDP), this conference seeks to inform the defence industry of the Ministry of Defence’s priorities in this initiative.

The goal is to have the national defence industry make a positive impact both in developing the Defence Technological and Industrial Base (DTIB), and in developing the long-term military capacities that the Armed Forces require.
