Isdefe and its commitment to innovation at the 4th National Congress on R&D in Defence and Security

Yesterday, 16 November, the 4th National Congress on R&D in Defence and Security (DESEI+D) began at the University Centre for Defence in San Javier. This gathering has already, in its fourth edition, become a benchmark for R&D in Defence and Security, bringing together academia, institutions and companies from the industry.

The opening ceremony featured several officials and Isdefe’s Director of Business Development, Jesús Alonso. In his talk, our Director noted Isdefe’s involvement in organising this Congress and remarked that success and innovation are not independent; rather, one is a consequence of the other.

Isdefe will be heavily involved with this Congress. The manager of R&D, Daniel Mosquera, will take part in the Plenary Session on Defence Engineering, and Raquel Pastor will give a presentation on the FP7 ePOOLICE project during the session on Information Acquisition and Processing. Cooperating in other presentations that will be given at the Congress were Germán Larriba, in the presentation “Guidelines for Obtaining an AAR Tank Clearance from the Military Authority’s Perspective”, and the former Isdefe head of ESAC, Vicente Ruiz, and engineer Aitor Ibarra, in the presentation “Isdefe Horizon: Space. Analysis of the Institutional Framework and the Main Areas of Current Research and Development in Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST)”. This work is a result of the Isdefe Horizons Network of innovation and foresight, a joint effort with the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid.

This year’s Congress is a special one for Isdefe, as it marks the first time the Isdefe “Antonio Torres” R&D Award will be presented for communications in the areas of R&D in Defence and Security, through which Isdefe hopes to promote a culture of participation and collaboration in R&D in these areas. The award also pays tribute to our colleague, Antonio Torres Díaz-Malaguilla, for his innovative work at Isdefe.
