Isdefe presents the “Antonio Torres” R&D Award at the closing of the 4th National Congress on R&D in Defence and Security

Today, 18 November, the 4th National Congress on R&D in Defence and Security concluded at the University Centre for Defence in San Javier. A leading forum in the area of R&D in Defence and Security, this fourth edition of the congress was well received by the leading actors in the Defence and Security industry. Formally closing the Congress was Vice-Admiral Jesús Manrique Braojos, Assistant Director of Planning, Technology and Innovation at the Ministry of Defence.

For the first time at this Congress, Isdefe presented its “Antonio Torres” R&D Award for the best work in the area of R&D in Defence and Security. Through this award, Isdefe seeks to promote a culture of participation and cooperation in R&D in these fields and to reaffirm its ongoing commitment to innovation. The award also honours the memory of Antonio Torres Díaz-Malaguilla for his innovative work at Isdefe.

The award was presented to Miguel Ángel Trujillo, from the Advance Centre for Aerospace Technologies of the Andalusian Foundation for Aerospace Development (FADA-CATEC), along with his co-authors, Antidio Viguria, Raúl Cano and Aníbal Ollero. Isdefe’s Head of Development, Álvaro Manresa, presented the award to the winner during the Congress’ closing ceremony. The winning work, titled Unmanned aerial system with advanced handling capabilities, describes a new technology that allows for complex operations while flying an unmanned rotary-wing aircraft. This is the world’s first prototype of an aerial robot arm that is capable of conducting these types of missions. This project was developed as part of the European FP7 ARCAS and H2020 AEROARMS projects.

This Congress was thus concluded with this Isdefe initiative that aims to provide an incentive to evolve R&D in Defence and Security for years to come.
