Isdefe welcomes at its headquarters the IUISI workshop on “BORDER AND TRANSPORT SECURITY”

Organised by the University Research Centre for Homeland Security (IUISI), in partnership with Isdefe, this workshop on border and transport security was held on 19 September with the participation of the main institutions that are involved in this activity in Spain.

The workshop was opened by the Commander of the Civil Guard’s Coastal and Border, Port and Airport Security Service, Mr Simón Venzal Contreras, the director of IUISI and professor of international law at the UNED, Ms Fanny Castro-Rial, and Mr Álvaro Manresa, Head of Business Development at Isdefe.

The goal of the workshop was to take stock of the border security situation, to debate and reflect on current initiatives and to draw conclusions from the experiences provided by various agencies and the Civil Guard Commands of different units at the national level.

Taking part as speakers in various discussions and debates were representatives from the Civil Guard, Ports of the State, Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA), the National Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

One of the main conclusions was the necessary partnership between all of the parties involved in border and transport security, which includes national law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies, operators, and the entities that manage the infrastructures.

This collaboration must be enhanced through new tools and technologies that provide for a more in-depth risk analysis and allow for the detection of potential vulnerabilities in infrastructures such as ports and airports, thus ensuring their protection and security, a challenge for the parties involved.
