The Ministry of Defence has published a book titled “Premios Isdefe I+D+i. Los diez artículos finalistas del DESEi+d 2019” [Isdefe R&D Awards. The Ten Best Articles from DESEi+d 2019], containing the ten best papers presented at the 7th National Congress on Defence and Security R&D (DESEi+d 2019).
The congress was held from 19-21 November 2019 at the Navy’s Non-Commissioned Officers School in San Fernando.
The paper leading off this volume, published by the Ministry of Defence, is the winner of the 4th Edition of the Isdefe Antonio Torres R&D Award, which, after a two-round process to narrow down the entries presented at DESEi+d 2019, was won by Mr Antonio J. Conesa Torres, from the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), for his paper on Plasma Actuators and Their Use in Aeronautics.
These ten finalists included papers featuring contributions from Isdefe, namely: “Detección y clasificación de objetos camuflados en el espectro visible utilizando cámaras hiperespectrales embarcadas” [Detection and Classification of Objects Camouflaged in the Visible Spectrum Using On-Board Hyperspectral Cameras] (Authors: Mateo Burgos, main author and work leader, Alba Delgado and Rodrigo Blázquez), and “Propulsión Cohete Basada en la Reacción Sodio-Agua. Un nuevo Concepto Propulsivo” [Rocket Propulsion Based on the Sodium-Water Reaction. A New Concept in Propulsion] (Authors: Juan Guerrero, main author and work leader, and LTC Jesús Sánchez, Aeronautical Corps of Engineers, Head of the Optoelectronics and Missiles Department at INTA).
The Isdefe Antonio Torres R&D Award was instituted at the 4th Edition of DESEi+d, held in 2016. At the presentation of the 6th edition of the DESEi+d Congress, on 7 May 2018 in the Isdefe Assembly Hall, the first book was presented, titled “Premios Isdefe I+D+i. Los diez artículos finalistas del DESEi+d 2017” [Isdefe R&D Awards. The Ten Best Papers from DESEi+d 2017]. This marks the third publication compiling the top papers eligible for the Award.
The Isdefe Antonio Torres R&D Award was created in an effort to showcase the high quality of the papers and speakers, and to help establish the DESEi+d Congress as a leading national congress and to turn it into what it is today: the leading forum in defence and security innovation for the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, academia, researchers, experts from various public research organisations and companies in the sector.
