Science and Data Engineering in Defence and Security: The Challenges of Big Data in New Conflict Scenarios

This was the theme of the eighth summer course held on 27 and 28 June at the CESEDEN and organised under the auspices of the Ingeniero General Antonio Remón y Zarco del Valle Chair, with Isdefe collaborating.

This chair, which focuses on teaching, academic and research activities related to Security and Defence, is part of the framework agreement for collaboration between the Ministry of Defence (through CESEDEN) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Participating in the course for Isdefe were Luis Miguel Aparicio Ortega, head of the Logistics Systems area, with the presentation "Big Data and Logistics Support"; Raquél Pastor, from the Innovation and R&D area, who participated in the round table "Research and Development Programs in Science and Data Engineering for Defence and Security", together with Mr. Ignacio Montiel Sánchez, representative of the European Commission's European Research Executive Agency; Professor Raúl García Castro, in the Artificial Intelligence Department at the ETSI-UPM; and Mr. Joaquín Catalá Lloret, head of the SDG PLATIN DGAM Technologies Management Unit, with a table moderated by General Francisco José Dacoba Cerviño.

This course was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Guillermo Cisneros Pérez, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Madrid; Mr. Francisco de Paula Bisbal Pons, Lieutenant General and Director of the Higher Centre for National Defence Studies; Mr. Francisco José Dacoba Cerviño, Director of the Spanish Institute of Strategic Studies; and Mr. Félix Pérez Martínez, Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Director of the UPM-CESEDEN Ingeniero General Antonio Remón y Zarco de Valle Chair.
