Successful second edition of Isdefe’s Programme to Solicit and Manage R&D Ideas

Successful second edition of Isdefe’s Programme to Solicit and Manage R&D Ideas

The second edition of the programme to solicit R&D ideas, held last 14 February at the Isdefe headquarters, has been very well received, with a total of twenty proposals being submitted by twelve candidates since the programme was kicked off on 28 June 2016.

The event started with an opening statement from Isdefe’s CEO, Francisco Quereda. Then, during the inauguration, the Director of Business Development, Jesús M. Alonso, underscored the importance of R&D to the company’s sustainability. He also noted the favourable reversal in the trend in R&D investments in recent years. The Director of Operations, José M. Hesse, also had some words for the participants and highlighted the results from the programme’s two editions.

Isdefe’s Manager of Development, Álvaro Manresa, then reviewed the second call for ideas and noted that in an effort to “not lose any ideas”, the internal projects programme went on to be called: “Programme to Solicit and Manage R&D Ideas”.

The proponents of the winning projects from the first edition of the programme then provided a summary of their results, with Tirso Camacho presenting a “Strategic Balanced Scorecard Tool” and José Antonio Tornero discussing his “Methodology for Defining the Safety Area in Shooting Ranges”.

Then the Director of Business Development, Jesús Alonso, and the Director of Operations, José Manuel Herrera, awarded certificates for the projects submitted for the Second Call for Internal R&R Projects.

Isdefe’s CEO and Lieutenant General Juan Antonio Carrasco then presented the awards for this year’s edition to the winners: Francisco Gallardo López, for his proposed “General system for tracking assets and burdens” and Alfredo Peña Ruiz, for “Supporting decision making in complex environments”.

Once the awards were presented, the Head of the Joint Defence Staff, Lt. General of the Air Force Juan Antonio Carrasco, gave a presentation on the “Importance of R&D in Armed Forces Operations”.

The event was closed out by our Chief Executive Officer, Francisco Quereda, who encouraged those present to provide ideas for the programme’s third edition. Through this event, Isdefe reinforced its constant support to its employees’ involvement and to innovation in projects related to those sectors it spearheads as part of the company’s R&D culture.
