Conclusion of the 2016 Cyberdefence Workshop

Yesterday the acting Minister of Defence, Mr. Pedro Morenés Eulate, closed the 2016 Cyberdefence Workshops, organised by the Joint Cyberdefence Command (MCCD). For four days, the workshops were attended by over one thousand visitors and were widely followed live online. The more than 70 presentations and talks can be downloaded in their entirety from the event website, through which more than 300 questions on cyberdefence were channelled. In his closing remarks, the acting Minister underscored how cyberspace is not a virtual location, but a real place that is essential to security. He also highlighted the work that the Defence Staff has been doing in recent years to improve its cyberdefence capabilities and protect the interests of Spain and its citizens.

The acting Minister, along with the Secretary of State for Defence, Mr. Pedro Argüelles Salaverría, the Head of the Defence Staff, Admiral Fernando García Sánchez, the Air Force Chief of Staff, General Francisco D. Javier García Arnaiz, and the Head of the Joint Cyberdefence Command, General Carlos Gómez López de Medina visited the Isdefe stand at the workshop, where they were welcomed by Isdefe’s CEO, Mr. Francisco Quereda Rubio, and other representatives from Isdefe. Earler, the Director of Business Development, Mr. Jesús Alonso Martín was presented with a certificate by the Head of the Joint Command in appreciation of Isdefe’s support organising the Workshop and its work as the lead strategic sponsor.

During the plenary, the Security Manager D. Oscar Pastor Acosta participated in the session on research and development by presenting the work of Isdefe in several international projects and cyberexercises in the NATO ‘s Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Estonia, where Isdefe supports within the framework of a cooperation agreement between the Joint Command and Cyber Defense Center said.
